New to Homeschooling? Not sure where to start? Please join us for SHG’s
Introduction to Homeschooling (now in TWO PARTS!).
PART 1 (Saturday, Jan 30 at 1pm) of this introduction will be a panel discussion with experienced Seattle-area homeschoolers who will give their own first-hand accounts of what homeschooling looks like for them:
things they’ve learned since they started homeschooling
stumbling blocks they’ve encountered
favorite resources
and more!
PART 2 (Saturday, Feb 6 at 1pm) will focus on the legal and practical aspects of homeschooling in Washington state. Washington Homeschool Organization (WHO) Advocacy Volunteer, Megan Riggs, will walk us through:
Washington State Home-Based Instruction (HBI) law
filing a Declaration of Intent (DOI)
parent qualifications
11 required subjects
annual testing/assessment
ancillary services through the public schools
issuing a homeschool diploma
running start
Bring your questions! Both sessions are free and open to all Seattle-area parents and caregivers, whether they are currently homeschooling or merely considering homeschooling. Seattle Homeschool Group Membership is not required, though we encourage all Seattle-area homeschoolers join SHG as it really is a great way to get connected to a supportive community and great resources.
